Friday Roundup: Animated Video Around the World

Here at IdeaRocket, we talk about the next big thing in animated video a lot. AI, CGI, new rendering tools—animation is changing all the time and we’re excited for what’s next. It’s easy to assume that the next big thing in animation will come from big name studios like Disney, Pixar, or Studio Ghibli—or even top animation schools like CalArts and Gobelins, but animated video is a lot more than the next blockbuster Disney film.

So to remind you that animation advances happen everywhere, here are some stunning animated video examples from studios around the world.

The New Wave of Latin American Animation

Latin American animation is bursting onto screens across the world. In the past few years, Latin American animation has become a fixture at international animation festivals like Annecy, and Gabriel Osorio’s Bear Story won the first Oscar for Latin American animation in 2016, setting the stage for more Latin American animation. Studios in Mexico, Peru, Brazil, are Colombia are currently producing over 100 animated feature films. Keep an eye out for the next wave of Latin American animation, because they’re coming to a theater near you.

Latin American Animated Video Production

The interesting combination of modest studios producing inspired budget animations and the fusion of live-action filmmaking in larger film markets like Brazil and Mexico is fostering a thriving animation movement from Mexico to Chile. Fresh productions like, Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos (A Rooster With Many Eggs), the first Mexican animation to get a U.S. release, and Peruvian 3D animation like, Condorito by Alex Orrelle are changing the way animation is made, sold, and viewed in markets the world over.

Animation is constantly evolving. The addition of new voices from animated video production studios in Central and South America will continue this evolution of animation with compelling new stories and perspectives.

animated video

In keeping with the growth of new international animation, Cartoon Network just picked up its first Danish made cartoon, “Prince Ivandoe.” From Christian Bøving-Andersen and Wallberg, animators on the wildly creative (and successful) The Amazing World of Gumball, Prince Ivandoe looks awesome.

We talked about it up above, but here’s the full trailer. It’s kind of awesome, especially the slow motion cock fight.
