Put Your Message Into Orbit With

WHITEBOARD ANIMATION

What is WHITEBOARD ANIMATION?

Over the last decade, a popular form of business video has been whiteboard animation.

In whiteboard animation, a drawing hand creates still images that illustrate what the voice over is saying.

Today, whiteboard animation continues to be popular because people have an undeniable fascination with seeing an artist create a drawn image – especially when that image is illuminating a narrative or argument.

Process

Our whiteboard animation
production process

1

Discovery

We find out about your message, objective, strategy, and brand.

2

Script

We take your message and boil it down to a story that can capture hearts and minds.

3

Design

We create a visual language that can bring that story to life.

4

Rough animatic

We match match rough art to voice so that they work together – no drawing hand yet.

5

Animation

We replace the rough art with fully rendered drawings, and we add the drawing hand to reveal them.

6

Sound Design

We add music and sound effects to help the image land. The video is now ready to deliver!

Whiteboard history

Whiteboard animation was first created by Andrew Park for the RSA (Royal Society for the Advancement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.) Their recorded talks were turned into videos that became massively popular on YouTube.

Our technique

While different whiteboard animation companies create the effect in different ways, our approach involves creating the art on a digital tablet and compositing a green-screened hand over it to create the illusion of drawing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Most companies take 4-8 weeks to deliver a whiteboard video. At IdeaRocket, we can usually deliver 5 weeks after script approval, but depending on budget, crew availability and video length, those delivery times can sometimes be cut by half.

Whiteboard animation takes longer to design, but since there usually isn’t much animation involved, costs generally are lower than they are for 2d animation.

We generally recommend against using big areas of color in whiteboard, but using accent colors can be highly effective and livens up the look of whiteboard.

Yes! Once we have created a whiteboard for you, the illustrations are your intellectual property and you can use them for infographics and other collateral.
